APRIL consumer prices rise for second consecutive month

CONSUMER PRICES climbed +0.3% in April for the second consecutive month in Metropole and +1.1% in one year while including the French Overseas Department (DOM TOM) prices grew equally month-on-month while yearly inflation jumped +2.1%.
Unlike the previous month, food prices stayed nearly unchanged or +0.2% as fresh produce -2% tag cut offset non fresh products steep +0.5% gain due to raw materials prices hike and consequently on meat products, up +0.5%, along with fish and seafood products + 0.7%, oil and fat +1.4% including each coffee, tea and cocoa.
Manufactured products prices rose +0.6% pushed up by clothing and footwear +3.2% spike with accessories and other clothing products price up 4.8%. Health products prices inched down -0.1% and other manufactured products prices stayed stable or +0.1%.
Energy prices +1.3% rise added to the index inflationary trend as oil products prices index grew +1%. The services price index remained unchanged or +0.1% despite residential gas prices +4.4% leap effective at the beginning of this month in addition to rent prices +0.4% rise, and liquid combustibles +0.5% gain. Transport and communication consumer prices climbed +0.3% smoothed out by communication -1% price cut as transport prices jumped +0.8% due to air fares +5.4% rise in connection with oil prices.
In one year, the index components prices rose for the majority and substantially: food products prices grew +0.6%, services +1.7% and energy products +13.7%. Manufactured products prices stayed unchanged or +0.2%. The steepest increases were recorded by coffee, tea, and coca each +4.3%, oil and fat +3.1%, dairy-cheese and eggs +1.3% and fish and seafood +2.7%. Regarding services, residential gas prices shot up +10.9%, liquid combustibles +27%, transport +5.5% and postal services +3.1% also due to rise from July 1st.
