CONSUMER PRICES remained unchanged in Metropole in October and for the fifth consecutive month (+0.2% including the French Overseas Departments in adjusted figures as in the previous month) and rose +0.8% in one year (+1.6% including the French Overseas Departments). Food prices stable index along with manufactured products and tobacco kept the overall index from inflationary pressures as energy prices +0.9% increase and services regular price hikes that same month impacted the index upwards. At a more detailed level, oil products prices climbed +1.6%, rent-water-garbage collection +0.7% and health services +0.9%. Noticeable price index cuts were recorded by health products -0.6% following government measures to enlarge over-the-counter medicines and reduce prices by the same token.

In one year, the most substantial price index increases were recorded by food steep +0.6% gain due to fruit +6.1% and vegetables +3.1% price index increases. Out of services, rent-utilities and other combustibles prices index jumped +3.9% due to residential gas prices +13.7%, electricity +3.1% and liquid combustibles +24.6%. The transport price index +3.6% increase resulted in the auto repair and maintenance +6.1% price gain as airfares -4.5% price cut offset a higher component price index rise. The leisure and culture component -0.5% price index decline reflected the usual IT-photo equipment price cuts while by contrast books-papers-reprints prices rose +2.1%. Other goods and services prices grew +2.8% due to jewelry and clocks +13.7% followed by insurance +5.4% as car insurance prices leaped +7.6%, and each home and health insurance +4.5%
