Inflation edges up in Euro area Oct. 2010

INFLATION in the Euro area edged up to 1.9% in October from 1.8% the previous month compared with -0.1% a year earlier. Monthly inflation was 0.4%. Clothing +3.3% price index increase along with education +0.6% and housing +0.4% pushed up the index while communication -0.3% price index cut, leisure-culture hotels and restaurants stable prices offset the overall index.

Greece +5.1%, Cyprus +3.2% and Belgium +3.1%, recorded the Euro area's highest inflation rates. In Iceland, a non EU member states, inflation moved down to 4.6% compared 13.8% a year earlier

In the Euro area, the highest yearly rates were recorded by transport +4.3%, alcohol and tobacco +3.4% and, housing +3.2%. Inversely, the lowest yearly rates were observed for communication -1.1%, leisure and culture +0.1% and clothing +0.4%. Energy products inflated the index due to components upward impacts : fuel for transport accounted for +0.04%, liquid combustible +0.14%, and gas +0.08%.Telecom and clothing, respectively -0.10% and -0.09% had the biggest downward impact
