MAY Producer prices rescind thanks to lower energy cost

PRODUCER Prices fell -0.5% in May, the first decline in seven months, while external markets prices stayed nearly unchanged or +0.2%. Coke and refinery producer prices -4.6% price cut reflected Brent crude oil prices downward trend initiated early in the month due to a global slow down and lesser demand as the Euro area‘s debt concern left industrial activities prudent.
Extractive industries-water and waste management performed equally with producer prices down -1.8% in addition to manufactured products -0.3% dip.
Food prices remained an exception and spiked +0.4% unlike commodities temporary dip, while external markets food producer prices stayed flat.
Electric-electronic equipment IT and machinery producer prices stayed mostly unchanged as slow demand called for a competitive edge return. Nevertheless, other manufactured producer prices rose +0.4% while external markets inched down -0.1%
In one year, producer prices mechanically moved down to +6%, as energy producer prices re-aligned with external markets to +24.3% and +24.5% respectively. Food prices by contrast recorded +7.9% rise on external markets compared with +6.8% on the domestic market.
