NOV. Consumer Prices inch up on tobacco hike

CONSUMER PRICES recorded a second consecutive increase in November in Metropole month-on-month, +0.3%, according to national statistics leading annual inflation to +1.6% (from +1.3% in October) due to tobacco +2.8% rise while energy prices rebounded +1.2%. Including the French Overseas Departments (DOM) inflation performed equally to Metropole on a monthly basis and grew +2.5% in one year. In November, the food price index inched down +0.3% (from +0.4%) despite fresh products substantial soft landing to +0.2% (from +1.6%) as fruit prices fell -1.3%. Excluding fresh goods food prices grew +0.3%. Oil and fat prices surged +0.4% while inversely, tea-coffee-cocoa prices moved down to +0.3% (from +0.9%).
Manufactured product prices stayed unchanged offset by shoes -0.2% price cut while clothing grew +0.4%. Health product prices decreased by 0.3% with the increasing use of generic drugs.
Energy products prices reflected crude oil +1.9% rise as Brent prices rose +2.1% expressed in currency to USD 110.8/barrel and +2.1% in Euro to 81.7.
The services price index rose +0.2% thanks to transport and communication -0.3% price cut as rent-water and garbage removal prices, pegged to inflation, stayed nearly unchanged or +0.1%
In one year, the steepest price increases were recorded by food +3.2%, tobacco +6.9% and crude oil products +15.4%. Liquid combustible prices shot up +23.8%. Manufactured product prices climbed +0.8% due to clothing and footwear +2.9%. The services price index increased +1.7%, rent and associated services +1.9% and health services +1.1%.
